Rochester is a census designated place (CDP) in Thurston County, Washington. The census designated place was named Rochester, Indiana, which was the native home of one of the first settlers. In 1978, the census designated place of Rochester started hosting their annual Suede Day Festival in place of their annual Strawberry Festival, which usually takes place in June. The event celebrates Swedish culture and heritage of Rochester's early beginnings, and contains lots of traditional Swedish cuisine, a maypole dance, and more.
